Founded in 1988, DFKI is one of the largest non-profit contract research institutes in the field of innovative software technology based on Artificial Intelligence methods. DFKI is focusing on the complete cycle of innovation – from world-class basic research and technology development through leading-edge demonstrators and prototypes to product functions and commercialization. With sites in Kaiserslautern, Saarbrücken, Bremen, Berlin, and Osnabrück the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence ranks among the most important “Centres of Excellence” worldwide. An important element of DFKI’s mission is to move innovations as quickly as possible from the lab into the marketplace. Only by maintaining research projects at the forefront of science, DFKI has the strength to meet its technology transfer goals. The research and technology development is carried out in nine different research departments.
TNO is one of the major contract research organisations in Europe. With a staff of approximately 3000 and an annual turnover of 580 million Euros, TNO is carrying out research to achieve impact on the following nine themes: Healthy Living, Industry, Traffic and Transport, Energy, Buildings Infrastructure and Maritime, Information and Communication Technology, Circular Economy and Environment, Strategic Analysis and Policy and Defence, Safety and Security. TNO functions as an intermediary between basic research organisations and industry.
Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems & Automation (LMS) is oriented on research and development in cutting edge scientific and technological fields. LMS is involved in a number of research projects funded by the EC and European industrial partners. Particular emphasis is given to the co-operation with the European industry as well as with a number of “hi-tech” firms. LMS is under the direction and technical coordination of Professor George Chryssolouris. It currently employs approximately 70 researchers organized in three different groups: a) Manufacturing Processes Modelling and Energy Efficiency, b) Robots, Automation and Virtual Reality in Manufacturing and c) Manufacturing Systems.
Fundación TECNALIA Research and Innovation is the leading private and independent research and technology entity in Spain and the fifth largest in Europe, employing around 1.300 people (around 188 of whom are PhD holders). TECNALIA operates in all the fields of today and tomorrow’s industry: Industry and Transport, Information and Communication Technologies, Building, Energy and Environment, Innovation Systems and Health and Quality of Life. In the 7th Framework Programme (2007-2013), TECNALIA has been involved in 377 projects, being the coordinator of 85 of them. TECNALIA is the foremost organisation in Spain in terms of participation and return in FP7. Up till October 2018, in H2020, TECNALIA has participated in 219 projects coordinating 44 of them.

AIMEN promotes and undertakes research, as well as improves design, simulation and manufacturing technologies.
